  • In 1972, it opened as Dubai’s first modern commercial port,  named after Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
  • The port was expanded in 1978 to handle more ships and larger vessels.
  • By the early 1980s, Mina Rashid was supplemented by the Port of Jebel Ali. 
  • In 2008, a major redevelopment of the port was announced. Under this, all the cargo operations were shifted to the Jebel Ali Port by 2018.
  • Gradually, Mina Rashid was transformed into a cruise terminal. Nakheel Properties used part of the port to develop Rashid Yachts & Marina.
