The transport picture at Emaar South in 2026 and in 2032 are substantially different, and the gap matters for property values. The projects below are drawn from official government and transport authority announcements. Do not purchase on the basis of transport improvements that are not yet contracted or under construction. Several of these are at advanced design or construction stages, not conceptual proposals.
1. Route 2020 Extension to Al Maktoum West Terminal
The RTA issued design tender invitations for a 3-kilometre Route 2020 extension from Expo City station to Al Maktoum International Airport West Terminal, adding two new stations (MEED, January 2026; Arabian Business, June 2026). Active design work has begun. This is the most significant near-term transport development for Emaar South and is tied to the airport Phase 1 completion timeline of 2030-2032.
2. Airport Express Line: DXB to DWC
In April 2026, the RTA invited consultants to bid on the study and design of an Airport Express Line approximately 55 kilometres long, running from Dubai International Airport through Al Jaddaf, Al Khail Road, Jumeirah Village Circle, and terminating at Al Maktoum International Airport with five stations (Time Out Dubai, April 2026). This project is at design-study stage, not under construction. Airport-style services including remote check-in and baggage drop are proposed at each station.
3. Dubai Metro Gold Line (Announced April 2026)
On 22 April 2026, the Dubai government announced the Gold Line: 42 kilometres, 18 stations, AED 34 billion investment, opening 9 September 2032 (Wikipedia, Dubai Metro article; Dubai Media Office). The line runs from Al Ghubaiba in Bur Dubai to Jumeirah Golf Estates, passing through Business Bay and Meydan. A future Etihad Rail interchange is planned at one of its stations.
4. Al Maktoum Airport Automated People Mover and Etihad Rail
The AED 128 billion Al Maktoum expansion, approved April 2024 and with Phase 1 construction started Q2 2026 (Arabian Business, June 2026), includes a 14-station Automated People Mover loop inside the airport and a dedicated Etihad Rail station. For Emaar South residents who work at or travel frequently through Al Maktoum, a world-class internal transit system will be within minutes of their front door by 2030-2032.
